Kate Bishop ~ Touch For Health Kinesiology

Educational Kinesiology (Edu K)

Like most therapists, I am keen to learn more!

Kinesiology is a vast field of study, with numerous branches and dimensions. Using my Touch for Health as a foundation, I am now studying Edu K and training to become a consultant.

I will incorporate Edu K techniques into my work if appropriate and will offer free sessions or "balances" for those willing to be case studies during my training, or who are interested in finding out more about this branch of kinesiology.

As well as practising as a therapist, I also work as a personal tutor in English and literacy, taking students from 6 - 16 years, and often those who struggle in a classroom environment because of dyslexia or issues with confidence. Edu K is the perfect tool to complement individual tuition, helping to enhance and optimise learning.

I have used Edu K exercises with groups of children at school for several years, and find that it is an enjoyable way of waking up and switching on, to integrate brain function and get the children into a state where they can concentrate and absorb information effectively.

In brief, Edu K can open up communication pathways in the brain and nervous system, allowing integration of the two sides of the brain, resulting in quicker learning and smoother activity.

On a one to one basis, an Edu K balance can be carried out to address a specific issue relevant to that person, whether they are a child or an adult. During a balance the body is put into "goal" as with Touch for Health, and a range of exercises are carried out to facilitate the achievement of the goal.

For children and adults alike, many issues can be addressed or overcome using Edu K, including:

  • Blocks to learning
  • Dyspraxia/dyslexia
  • Reading, writing, comprehension
  • Poor co-ordination/clumsiness
  • Fears and phobias
  • Lack of confidence
  • Improving performance in sport/riding/music/dance/martial arts
  • And much more.....
