TERMS OF HOME VISIT (DOMESTIC)

Assurances and Limitations

  1. Domestic home visits are made by mutual consent between the customer and TechScope, and where agreed they are necessary to the nature of the inquiry or the request for assistance.

  2. Prior to the visit, as much relevant information about the job is ascertained in order to assist TechScope with any appropriate preparation, in terms of materials and equipment. For tasks other than tuition, not every eventuality or technical issue that arises will be foreseeable, and therefore, as a result of the initial visit, any diagnosis of the problem(s) may require a subsequent visit in order to gather appropriate additional materials, such as software, in order to complete the task(s).

  3. Area coverage for home visits extends to the whole of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. Discretion, and consideration of circumstances, will be applied to requests for service or tuition outside these county limits.

  4. a) Diagnostics: Subject to the consent as described in 1), and in the event that no service work actually transpires as a result of the visit, a minimum call-out charge of £25.00 will apply to areas beyond a 5 mile radius of Great Malvern, increasing on a zone-scale relative to the 2 counties' limits, to a maximum of £45.00. Such a call-out charge will form part of an agreement to undertake on-site diagnostic work before TechScope leaves base.

For example: Visits to Upton Upon Severn, Colwall, and Leigh Sinton will incur no charge. Visits to Worcester and Ledbury incur the minimum charge of £25.00, only if the visit does not include remedial service work.

    b) Service Work: In the event that a visit for initial diagnostic purposes results in service work carried out during the same visit (as will most often be the case), the call-out charge will be waived**, and normal service rates will apply. **For Zones 3 & 4 (see map in seperate window), the call-out charge will be waived only if the extent of the service visit exceeds 1 hour.

  5. For domestic service only, immediate payment for works carried out, whether for diagnostic only or service (including diagnostic), will be required on completion of the visit, whereupon a receipt shall be provided.

  6. Due to the issues and findings that may arise during a diagnostic visit, all findings relevant to the original inquiry*** will be reported at the time of the visit and an estimate of the time required to complete the tasks will be provided to the customer. This will help the customer decide how much of the remedial work they wish to have undertaken, and whether they wish to split the work between a number of visits, in consideration of the time estimate. Such estimations need to take account of the nature of the problems, including the speed at which the computer(s) operate, which are highly variable between different machines, as well as any time required to assist the customer in a level of education pertaining to the findings, and with regard to the customer's desire to be so informed. Any time period which includes a continuation of the tasks as agreed over and above the estimates given will be disregarded for charging purposes. In other words, if an estimate of work is set at 2 hours, and the work takes 3 hours, the customer will only be charged for 2 hours. Similarly, if an estimate for work is set at 2 hours and the work only takes one hour, the customer will be charged for the single hour, not the 2 hours as given in the estimate. The reason for giving estimations in this way protects both the customer from overcharging, and TechScope from carrying out tasks that are not agreed and then disputed.

For example: Diagnosis reveals the presence of several different virus infections. The customer accepts the need for work to remove those infections, and to install and configure new anti-virus software. TechScope also recommends the installation of a service patch, a firewall and anti-spyware software, and provides a total estimate of 3½ hours to complete all these tasks. The customer decides to only have the viruses removed, and the AV and service patch installed. A revised estimate for these tasks is set at 2½ hours, including any informal training. No further work other than what is agreed is carried out. The customer is charged only on the basis of the agreed work and revised estimate.

***Any findings not directly related to the original inquiry, or not relevant to the remedial work deemed necessary, will be advised to the customer for further consideration.

  7. TechScope is committed to customer confidentiality and the integrity of private data. Customers are invited, if they so wish, to consult with TechScope in the strictest confidence any concerns regarding the nature of data contained on the computer(s) in question, or regarding the evidence for usage history of the computer(s) by persons under 18 and under customer guardianship. TechScope will not volunteer or disclose information or discuss private data, with the customer or with any other party, unless a prior request to do so is made by the customer before work starts, whether such work is purely diagnostic or otherwise. The same principles apply to tuition
